Pluggin’ Away

I encountered a bit of a writer’s cramp the past couple of days.  Remember the post Second Guesses?  Well – that unsettling feeling that something was amiss struck again.  So - I took some time out to do some more research.  If anyone wants to know about Celtic Mythology and Celtic Gods & Goddesses, I’m your girl.  Yesterday, I met with Graeme Smith; my resource for “All Things Scottish” and bagpiper extraordinaire.  He gave me a lot of helpful information and insight into Scottish culture.  Thanks again Graeme!!!  I met with Stef for another critique session.  As always, I am so appreciative of her honest feedback and insights.  She found at least one hole in the plot that I will need to fix.  Yeah Stef!!!

Time for another attempt at a clever metaphor.  Although I didn’t swim any laps the past couple of days, I wasn’t treading water either.

Tonight I spent three hours reviewing my plot again.  This time, working backwards from the character development standpoint, making sure I included elements that would enable them to grow.  I also spent time building the world my characters live in and defining more of the back-story that’s been missing.

This weekend will be tough to get in any substantial writing time due to an abundance of extracurricular activities.  We have two soccer games and Brad is running a half marathon on Sunday.  I’m going to cheer him on; requiring me to wake up before the crack of dawn.  Therefore, no staying up late Saturday writing into the wee hours of the morning.  And Saturday's also Bunco night.  So I look to the positive side of not sitting in front of the computer screen for hours on end this weekend:

  • My sore wrist will have time to rest.  It’s killing from all the typing!
  • I will spend quality time with family and friends who I have been ignoring.
  • Maybe I'll win something at Bunco.
  • I will be able to do plenty of people watching, which provides inspiration for characterization and dialogue.  See I really can’t get away from it now can I?

Wishing you a happy day!

FORBIDDEN SECRETS

YA Paranormal

Kyra focuses on a full-ride to college and defending her state cross-country title.  Now plagued by terrifying visions, hiding her psychic curse and avoiding the label “class freak” becomes priority number-one.  Until she falls for Aidan.

In this Romeo & Juliet meets Highlander, when Kyra becomes the pawn for one rogue immortal pursuing a sacred artifact protected by Aidan’s clan of Celtic immortals, and another seeking to settle a centuries-old blood feud; Aidan must choose between loyalty to his family or protecting the girl who’s claimed his heart.  However, Kyra’s secret may cost her everything, including the boy she loves.

Sprinkled with the magic of Celtic legend and the intrigue of Scottish history, this story placed 3rd in the 2011 Four Seasons Contest.
